Review of  “Chipping Away”

Judy Freed’s enchanting voice is only one reason to love this CD. Two others are her fresh melodies and lyrics that are by turns deeply moving and light-hearted. “Men with Guns” tells the true story of an armed apartment-invasion robbery, while “New Age State of Mind” and “Box 6052” are humourous sendups of politically correct new-ageism and the awkward yet popular emotional minefield of the Personals Ads.

But perhaps one of the strongest pieces is her gentle yet fiercely gay-positive ballad “Through the Night,” which straightforwardly defends love between any two persons of any gender.
